Origens e Objetivos

A oportunidade e a necessidade de uma ação convergente dos agentes da cadeia da cogeração no Estado de São Paulo e no país, que tem demonstrado interesse no desenvolvimento da cogeração, principalmente, a partir do incremento do uso da biomassa da cana-de-açúcar e do gás natural, motivaram a constituição da COGEN - Associação da Indústria de Cogeração de Energia, com base na bem sucedida experiência da Cogen Europe (www.cogen.org), entidade que realiza um importante trabalho de promoção da cogeração em toda a Comunidade Européia.

A COGEN foi estruturada com a certeza de que a sua ação poderá trazer resultados positivos e, no curto espaço de tempo, não só na eliminação das “barreiras” ainda existentes para tornar viáveis os projetos de cogeração, como demonstrar a capacidade e pioneirismo do governo e do empresariado no desenvolvimento e implementação de um modelo de diversificação da Matriz Energética caracterizada pela busca de soluções mais eficientes, limpas e de menor custo.

A cogeração de energia no país a partir das disponibilidades de biomassa da cana-de-açúcar e do gás natural possibilitará o aumento da competitividade dos produtos e serviços da indústria brasileira, ampliando as oportunidades de trabalho e de negócios na cadeia da cogeração, que tem sido considerada, nas nações mais industrializadas, um marco de eficiência na parceria das ações governamentais e empresarial. A expansão recente da agroindústria da cana-de-açúcar e as descobertas de gás natural na Bacia de Santos são fatores que contribuirão para a rápida penetração da cogeração de energia no mercado brasileiro.

A COGEN foi constituída em junho de 2003, como sociedade civil independente e sem fins comerciais, a partir da convergência de interesses no desenvolvimento da cogeração, reunindo empresas dos setores da agroindústria canavieira, distribuição de gás natural e de energia elétrica e fabricantes e prestadoras de serviço nessa área.
